Data Scientist

Job Summary

JGR is seeking a Data Scientist to join our growing Analytics department. The successful candidate will work closely with our data & engineering teams to execute projects aimed at driving performance development in our race cars and improving race execution. This role will involve utilizing advanced analytical techniques, including ML and AI technologies, to extract insights, optimize strategies, and contribute to our competitive advantage in the highly dynamic world of NASCAR racing.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering and race team personnel to identify areas for performance improvement and translate such information into well-defined and actionable projects.

  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to identify innovative AI/ML approaches and frameworks for problem-solving.

  • Design and implement advanced machine learning and AI models to address the defined objectives.

  • Conduct research to stay updated on the latest AI/ML methodologies and incorporate them into project designs.

  • Work with data engineers to collect, clean, and process data from multiple sources including vehicle telemetry streams, on-car data systems, race data feeds, and external APIs/databases.

  • Experiment with various data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model optimization techniques to improve performance.

  • Conduct predictive modeling and simulation to forecast race outcomes, evaluate race strategies, and enhance decision-making processes.

  • Evaluate model performance using appropriate metrics, ensuring reliability, scalability, and accuracy.

  • Develop deployment strategies, including integration with production systems and model monitoring.

  • Optimize and retrain models as needed based on real-world performance feedback.

  • Communicate findings and recommendations effectively to stakeholders through data visualization, reports, and presentations.

  • Document technical processes, results, and best practices to ensure knowledge transfer within the team.

  • Evaluate and recommend AI/ML tools, platforms, and libraries to enhance the team’s capabilities and support the adoption of best practices in software engineering, including version control, testing, and code reviews.

  • Lead efforts to improve the scalability, efficiency, and robustness of AI/ML solutions.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. A Master’s or PhD in a relevant domain is highly desirable, particularly if the candidate has experience in research or developing novel AI/ML algorithms. 

  • 4-6 years of professional work experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques.

  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and software engineering principles, plus a mathematical foundation, particularly in linear algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB for data manipulation and analysis plus experience with relevant libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, NumPy, pandas).

  • In-depth knowledge of supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning techniques.

  • Expertise in advanced AI techniques such as deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and generative AI.

  • Experience with DevOps and MLOps practices and related tools (source controls, pipeline & model management, etc.)

  • Applied experience in the field of professional sports analytics or automotive engineering is a plus.

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and people skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

NASCAR Xfinity Series Race Engineer

Position Summary

  • Seeking a highly motivated race engineer with previous racing experience and at least 2 years of motorsport engineering experience.

  • Responsibilities include optimizing car performance in setup and race strategy.

ARCA Series Engineer/Setup Technician

Joe Gibbs Racing is seeking a full-time Engineer with Setup experience to join our team.

 

Responsibilities include but not limited to: 

  • Develop, refine, validate, and maintain simulation baselines

  • Support DIL sessions

  • Assist in chassis setup

  • Operate and lead pulldown procedures utilizing the Mitler Bros. PD Rig

  • Input setup information and data into database

  • Perform post-event data collection and analysis

  • Motec data kit installation and operation for at track testing

  • Perform duties in accordance with company policy and as directed by the Crew Chief   

 

 

Requirements: 

  • Team-oriented with positive attitude

Cup Series Race Engineer

Position Summary

This position requires a highly motivated engineer possessing expertise in optimization of performance as it applies to car setup and race strategy.  The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of high-level motorsport engineering experience, centering around race engineering tasks with deep involvement in vehicle simulation.  A high concern for quality, an ability to independently produce high-quality results, and skills to manage and process high volumes of complex data in a high-pressure environment is necessary.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform vehicle simulation work throughout event cycle life

    • Develop, refine, validate, and maintain simulation baselines

    • Perform pre-event setup parameter sensitivity simulation studies

    • Perform race meeting setup comparison evaluation and optimization studies

  • Perform tire data analysis to establish optimal performance window envelope

  • Perform aerodynamic analysis to establish optimal performance window envelope

  • Assist DIL program with accurate simulation models, simulation validation studies 

  • Facilitate DIL tests to bridge the gap between the track and simulation focusing on setup development, and driver training

  • Travel to race events and support team with simulation work and data collection/analysis

  • Assist the Crew Chief with development and execution of race event and track test plans

  • Use engineering tools (simulation & other) to assist Crew Chief, Car Chief, and race team with the decision-making process at the race track

  • Attend selected track test events performing requisite simulation work and data analysis

  • Perform post-event investigations

  • Responsible for communicating complex, technical data to various levels of the organization

  • Collaborate with simulation development and software groups to guide simulation development direction

Essential Duties:

 

  • Travel as a mechanic / tire specialist as needed

    • Assist with suspension nut-and-bolt / safety check

Senior Motorsports
Mechanical Engineer

Job Summary

As a Senior Engineer in the Vehicle Design Group at Joe Gibbs Racing, you will play a direct role in the development, implementation, safety, and reliability of our racecars.
 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for Joe Gibbs Racing teams

  • Excel in a collaborative team setting, working to a very high standard, with a positive work attitude and willingness to help others succeed

  • Competently prioritize workloads and projects to manage time efficiently

  • Identify, consult, and resolve quality issues

  • Specify and communicate scientific and analytical plans and processes

 

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must have a minimum or 8 years of vehicle systems, design, and/or development engineering experience for a top-tier motorsports program, i.e.: NASCAR CUP or Xfinity, IndyCar, WEC, IMSA Prototype, F1, or Formula E.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university. Preference will be noted for candidates with higher degrees.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.  We will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

 

Additional Attributes and Skills

  • A strong aptitude for mechanical systems, mechanical design, and application of engineering fundamentals to achieve tangible results

Road Mechanic

We currently have a job opening for a NCS traveling interior mechanic/tire specialist on the 19 NCS car for the 2025 season. 

 

  • This is a full-time traveling position.

  • Experience on the road as a mechanic/tire specialist in NXS or NCS.

CNC Machinist/Lathe Operator

Please note: This job is for Joe Gibbs Manufacturing Solutions.

JGMS is looking for a qualified person with expertise in multi-axis machining of metal parts with complex geometries. We produce machined parts for the automotive, aerospace and industrial industries. This individual will manufacture various items using a variety of CNC milling and manual machining equipment. We are currently looking for one candidate in our multi axis machine area and two candidates in our lathe department. Pay is negotiable based on experience.
 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Operate CNC milling equipment to manufacture parts to print and instructions provided. Adjust or operate machine tools used to perform precision machining operations.

  • Complete accurate and timely system transactions.

  • Communicate with other departments (Quality, Engineering) and Production Management, in order to resolve problems, improve processes and increase efficiency.

  • Follow company established quality procedures.

  • Other duties assigned by supervisor as needed.
     

Job Qualifications

  • 3-5 Years of experience in CNC machining

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

  • Able to setup and adjust machine tools.

  • Ability to run proven programs.

  • Ability to work safely, independently and with good time management.

  • Ability to use variable and attribute measuring tools, and/or ability to learn to use new measuring equipment.
