Dave Alpern

Chief Marketing Officer

Dave Alpern began his career with JGR in 1993 as a project intern, and has seen the team grow from 18 employees to nearly 500. Dave currently oversees all aspects of marketing for the team, including consumer products, branding, social media, marketing activation, and assists in driver management and negotiation, and sponsorship sales. He is one of the longest tenured marketing executives in the sport, and has worked with marketing counterparts and CEOs of many of the country’s largest companies such as Home Depot, Fedex, Mars, Dollar General, Coca Cola and Interstate Batteries.

Dave was born in Frankfurt, Germany, the son of a high ranking CIA official, and after returning to the states at age 2, grew up just outside the nation’s capital in Northern Virginia. Dave attended Oakton High School (along with childhood friend JD Gibbs), and earned a Communications degree from George Mason University in Fairfax, Va. Plans to pursue an MBA were put on hold in 1993 when offered an internship with a startup NASCAR team owned by Coach Gibbs, which led to a move to Charlotte and a one company career that is now in its third decade.

Dave and his wife Stacey, his college sweetheart, have 3 sons. His interests include snow skiing and snowboarding, playing volleyball, mountain biking, running, and losing golf balls. He is also an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and Boston Red Sox.

Hey Dave,

I hope you and Stacy are doing well. I can’t believe the twins are 16.

Can you tell me who is doing the invocation at the Coca Cola 600 race this year? I’m writing for the Huntersville Herald’s Faith section and I want to make sure to cover Nascar ministries. Also, who would be a good person to talk to at Joe Gibbs about Nascar chaplaincy ministries?

Thanks,
Angie
