Kyle Busch - Homestead Preview

KYLE BUSCH, Driver of the No. 18 M&M's Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing:

You're going to clinch the Nationwide Series championship this weekend. Are there some things that you've learned on that side this year - consistency being one of them - that you hope to apply toward trying to win a Sprint Cup championship?

"I've learned a lot, for sure. We've been really consistent over there and it's going to earn us a championship and we're hoping, with Dave (Rogers, crew chief) coming on board with our M&M's Toyota, we can build toward being that consistent starting next year. Any championship in NASCAR is a big deal and I'm proud of the effort by all the guys over there. I've had to learn to be a little more patient and take what the car will give me and not try to drive over my head if my car isn't the best out there. I've tried to learn to take what you have - if it's a 12th-place finish like we had at Phoenix last week - you take that, since it's the best you had that day. That kind of stuff wins you championships and something that Jimmie (Johnson) and Chad (Knaus) have been able to do so well. You also want to be the best of the best on the Cup tour and, ultimately, that's what Jimmie's been able to hit on. And I always bring up his name, probably in about every interview, but you have to idolize the guy. Who can win four straight titles in this type of era? Not even Jeff Gordon could do it. It's a big deal. Those guys have really got it together and, one of these days, whoever beats them, I can't imagine if they can go five straight."

Conversation with Kyle Busch:

What has it been like to win 19 times across the top-three series in NASCAR this season? And how does that make you feel as you plan to put more of an emphasis than ever on the Cup side in 2010 in your quest for the championship there?

"I wish we could have gotten a couple more Cup wins. I felt like there was some opportunity for those. It didn't work out. We've had a great year. All the Joe Gibbs Racing team drivers won in their hometown, which was pretty cool. Denny (Hamlin) won at Richmond (Va.), Joey (Logano) won up at Loudon (N.H.) and I won at Vegas. That's pretty cool, all in the Cup Series. And for Joey, of course, it was his first win. It's been a great year for Joe Gibbs Racing overall. It's been a great year for me in all three series. I've run the best I've ever run in the Truck Series and have had good trucks every week. Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and the guys have done a good job with our Nationwide cars every week to come unload like that. Our Cup program has struggled a little bit but, unfortunately, sometimes that happens, and Joe and J.D. (Gibbs) ended up making a change with Dave coming on board. You look at Matt Kenseth. He won the first two races of the year and he's right there with us sitting 13th or 14th. It's disappointing but, on the other side of things, I think it was actually a little bit of a good thing that I was able to put more focus toward the Nationwide deal and get the championship wrapped up here and not have to worry about both of them. Now, the Nationwide deal is close to being done with and we can go back to focusing more on the Cup effort there and try to get ourselves to championship-caliber on that side. Somebody has to beat that 48 (Jimmie Johnson)."

Kyle Busch - Texas Race Report

Kyle Busch and the No. 18 M&Ms Toyota came just a couple laps short of making NASCAR history at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday evening.

Texas Preview - Kyle Busch

It's that time of the year again - the weather is turning colder, the leaves are falling from the trees, and winter is quickly approaching.

Along with the seasonal chill this time of year comes the annual round of changes in the air among the teams competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, as well.

One of those teams, with just three races remaining in the marathon-like Sprint Cup schedule, is the No. 18 M&M's team for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), which moves Dave Rogers to the top of the pit box as crew chief for driver Kyle Busch in Sunday's Dickies 500 Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth.

Busch, driver of the No. 18 M&M's Toyota Camry, will be paired with Rogers for the first time in Sprint Cup competition. But the two are already familiar with each other as the talented 24-year-old Busch piloted the No. 20 JGR Toyota, with Rogers as crew chief, for three races in the Nationwide Series last season. In those races - at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga., Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, and the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez road course in Mexico City - Busch and Rogers combined to lead 300 of the possible 503 laps and scored their first win together at Mexico City.
