How do you feel heading to Kansas after the results after the first Cup Series race with JGR?
“I’m looking forward to it. I really am. I think we learned a lot tonight. Texas is the first time that I’ve driven a Cup car, a Gen-6 car on a big track. It was a big learning curve for me. Just learning about these cars and the trend it takes under a green flag run and the difference between practice and race, etc. It was a learning curve. I think obviously working with a new team, being in the Gen-6 car at a mile-and-a-half for the first time for me was a lot to learn. I think we’ll take away from it tonight and go to Kansas and hopefully go after that win.”
How has it been working with JGR on the Cup side?
“It’s been really good. These guys have been great. They’ve been great to work with. Everyone has really welcomed me into the team. Working with Darian (Grubb, crew chief) and all the engineers has been pretty easy. I think at the end of the day we still have to learn what I want out of the race car and I’ve got to learn their cars and I have to communicate that to them. Some of that is just me learning what I need in this car and learning what I need in their cars and some of it is just understanding what that is. We’ll get there.”

What will it take for you to get your first win at Indianapolis?
“I think we’ve shown at Indy that we have what it takes to win there and the team really builds great cars for this track. It’s a track where JGR cars have won before and a track that I really like from the driver’s seat so we go there feeling like we can unload fast, get better in practice and compete on Sunday. To win here you need the car, the driver and the crew all at their best, and then have a lot of things go your way. We have had our share of issues at Indy, but if you take those away there is no reason we can’t run up front.”
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (January 6, 2012) – Joe Gibbs Racing announces today that Mark Martin will drive the Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry in the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Las Vegas in March.
“We’ve always hoped to have the opportunity for Mark to drive for us and to have him behind the wheel of our Interstate Batteries Toyota for the Nationwide race in Vegas is exciting,” said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. “He is a great example to all drivers of the dedication it takes to be successful and certainly we’re honored to have him part of our efforts in 2012.”
