It was not the type of day Joe Gibbs Racing has become accustomed to in recent years at the famed short track of Bristol Motor Speedway. Joey Logano would lead the team’s three-car contingent in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Food City 500 with a 16th-place finish, while Denny Hamlin finished 20th and an early-race accident left Kyle Busch back in 32nd.

Logano started the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota in the top ten and was able remain toward the front of the field through the early going of the 500-lap race. As the race progressed however, tight conditions through the center of the turns would make it difficult for Logano to maintain his momentum as he drove out of the corners. With few cautions and several long green flag runs there was few opportunities for The Home Depot crew to make adjustments and the No. 20 Camry would fall a lap off the pace to the leaders. He would go on to finish two laps down in the 16th position.

Joey Logano led Joe Gibbs Racing with a 16th place finish in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kobalt Tools 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Handling issues would plague all three JGR teams for much of the day as teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch would finish 20th and 23rd respectively.

Joe Gibbs Racing proved hot in the warmth of the Phoenix desert today, with all three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams earning a top-ten finish, led by Denny Hamlin in the No. 11 FedEx Office Toyota, who won the Subway Fresh Fit 500.

The victory was the 198th for the No. 11 car in NASCAR history, which ties the No. 43 for all-time wins by car number in the Sprint Cup Series.

Meanwhile his teammates Kyle Busch and Joey Logano were also strong throughout the day and earned sixth and 10th-place finishes respectively.

The Great American Race was postponed for the first time in history thanks to heavy rains that swept across Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. When the track was finally dry the result was a Monday night primetime event that certainly didn’t lack any of the excitement that has come to be expected from the Daytona 500.
