Another Top Five Boosts Gresham Into NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Points Lead

A stirring drive to the front and a solid third-place finish in the VisitHamptonVA 175 Saturday at Langley Speedway has boosted Max Gresham to the top of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship standings.

The steady finish – a sixth-straight top-five series effort for the driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Toyota – vaulted Gresham to the lead in the division championship chase by a 17-point margin (1125-1,108) over his nearest challenger, Matt DiBenedetto.

Gresham Wins Thrilling NASCAR K&N Classic At GMP

Max Gresham had the fastest car all day, but it took a three-wide, mad dash green-white-checkered flag finish to give the driver of the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota a victory in the Slack Auto Parts 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Gresham Motorsports Park Saturday evening.

“The late-race green-white-checkered flag finish and Darrell Wallace, Jr. definitely put some pressure on us, but we prevailed off of Turn 2,” said Gresham. “To win here at my home track – the track owned by my grandfather – is a surreal moment for me.”

If anyone ‘owned’ the high-speed GMP half-mile oval on Saturday, it was the 18-year-old Huntersville, NC driver. Gresham served notice early that he and his Live Oak Plantation sponsored racer would be the team to beat blasting their way to the pole position with a lap of 17.269 seconds (104.233 miles per hour average) in qualifying.

At a track where starting up front is a must, Max Gresham proved you could rally for a good finish from the back coming home fourth in Saturday’s Army Strong 150 at Bowman Gray Stadium.

Gresham – who also had the luxury of starting up front – recovered from an accident that put him 21st in the running order with just 70 laps to go. The solid finish left an impression on the 18-year-old Joe Gibbs Racing team driver.
