A wild ending took away what appeared to be certain victory from Kyle Busch on the last lap of today’s race at Watkins Glen International. Busch would get spun by the No. 2 car on the final lap to drop from first to a seventh-place finish, while a broken shock mount left Joey Logano back in 32nd and an engine failure relegated Denny Hamlin to 34th-place.

Denny Hamlin Quotes
What are you expecting to see at Watkins Glen this weekend?
“I think this weekend will be a crazy race for a lot of reasons. Many of the guys outside the top-10 will be looking to do anything to get that first or second win, the road course guys will be in the mix and battling, and the guys at the back half of the top-10 will try to avoid the madness and get a good finish. As we saw in Sonoma earlier this year, guys drive very aggressive on these road courses, and with the ‘wild card’ format for the Chase, anything is possible. Our team is in a position where a string of good finishes can keep us comfortably in the top-10. Watkins Glen has been a good track for us in the past, we just had some bad luck the past couple years. Our road course cars have been pretty fast lately. We had a good car in Sonoma, and I’m expecting another fast car this weekend. We’ll see how it shakes out.”
Rain played a major factor in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pennsylvania 400 at Pocono Raceway with heavy downpours delaying the start and then another round of storms bringing the day to early conclusion.
Through the opening laps it appeared it might be a great day for Joe Gibbs Racing with all three cars showing speed early on, but unfortunately the good fortune would not last and when NASCAR called the race after just 98 of the scheduled 160 laps it would be Joey Logano leading the team with a 13th-place finish, while an accident just before the last round of rain left Denny Hamlin back in 29th and an early part failure resulted in a 33rd-place finish for Kyle Busch.
