How was your visit to Alaska?
“It was a great experience. I had never been to Alaska before, but got a chance to visit the Anchorage hub and there’s 1,300 FedEx employees at that hub and greeted all of them with smiles and they just had a great time. Living in Anchorage, Alaska, they don’t get to see a whole lot of racing, nor do they get to see their driver too often. So it was a very exciting time for them, and at the conclusion of that part of it, we went out in the parking lot and had some fun with some racing dogs and did some dog mushing. It was a lot of fun. Dallas (Seavey, 2012 Iditarod champion) was great to us. It was amazing to hear the conditions they go through, being anywhere from 40 (degrees) above zero to 50, 60 below zero during the Iditarod run, thousand-mile run. It’s amazing to see what they do on that side and what kind of racing they do.”

Sonoma Report

Joey Logano led Joe Gibbs Racing with a 10th-place finish in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Toyota/Save Mart 350 from Sonoma, CA.

Meanwhile late-race damage from contact on the tight corners of the 1.99-mile race track left Kyle Busch to finish 17th and created a part failure for Denny Hamlin that resulted in a 35th-place finish.

Joey Logano started the No. 20 Home Depot Toyota in 14th and raced just outside the top ten through much of the first half of what proved to be a mostly caution free race. He would enter the top ten by lap 75 and remain among the leaders the remainder of the race. Tight racing over the final laps would hamper his ability to gain additional positions on the track and he would go on to finish 10th.

Michigan Melee

Today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quicken Loans 400 from Michigan International Speedway would unfortunately not provide a day to remember for Joe Gibbs Racing.

An engine issue would relegate Kyle Busch to a 32nd-place finish, while separate accidents would leave Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano to finish 34th and 35th respectively.

Busch started his No. 18 Snickers Toyota in 34th, but wasted no time in moving up through the field as he jumped up into 21st in just two laps and was in the top 15 by lap seven. Busch had climbed all the way up into the top ten following a couple early competition cautions to allow teams to check tire wear. A four-tire stop on the second of those two cautions would have him restart back toward the middle of the field, but Busch would make his way forward once again. Unfortunately for the third straight week an engine issue would send his Snickers Camry to the garage early. The team would manage to make repairs and get Busch back on the track, but he would be 41 laps off the pace and relegated to a 32nd-place finish.

Logano Wins at Pocono!

Joey Logano started from the pole, led the most laps and earned his first victory of the season in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pocono 400 from Pocono Raceway.

Logano would use a late-race pass of Mark Martin and then drove away to earn the win, while teammate Denny Hamlin finished fifth and for the second straight week an engine problem left Kyle Busch with a disappointing 30-place finish.
