Adam Stevens

Adam Stevens enters his second season as crew chief for the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 NASCAR Nationwide Series team off the success of a first-year that was highlighted by one of the most prestigious victories any crew chief can hang their hat on: a victory at the historic Daytona International Speedway.

Stevens’ first full season of Nationwide Series competition ended with two wins, one pole, 11 top-fives and 21 top-10 finishes.  Stevens two wins came with two of the sport’s best drivers: Denny Hamlin, who won the NNS event at Richmond in April, and Joey Logano, who won at Daytona International Speedway in July.

Stevens also spent the season getting to work with two of the sport’s future starts in Drew Herring and Ryan Truex in several different races.

Prior to his first full-season as a Nationwide Series crew chief, Stevens spent the previous six seasons as the lead race engineer for JGR’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series No. 20 Toyota team.

That team captured the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship in Stevens’ first season in 2005 with driver Tony Stewart behind the wheel. Stevens has also been part of the team’s transition to Logano, who captured NASCAR Rookie of the Year honors in 2009 and completed a strong 2010 season with seven top-five and 16 top-ten finishes.

A native of Portsmouth, OH and graduate of Notre Dame High School, Stevens grew up racing dirt late models with his father in Ohio. Spending virtually every weekend at a race track since he was a small boy, Stevens worked on cars until he turned 16 and then got behind the wheel until he moved to North Carolina following his college graduation from Ohio University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Stevens joined Petty Enterprises in 2002 upon graduating Ohio University and served in a number of capacities before moving into the role of race engineer.  Stevens joined JGR in January 2005.

Stevens and his wife Aubrey (married January 12, 2007) live near JGR’s shop in Huntersville, NC with their three-year old son Carter Stevens (born December 22, 2008).  The couple is expecting their second child in 2012.  In his spare time, Stevens is an avid golfer and enjoys watching college football.

The No. 20 Nationwide Series Toyota entry for JGR will carry sponsorship from GameStop, Dollar General, Interstate Batteries and Sport Clips, among others, in 2012. It will also be a team effort behind the wheel with Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, Mark Martin and others expected to share driving duties this season.
