Brian Scott
The 2012 season marks 24-year-old driver Brian Scott’s second full season with Joe Gibbs Racing and his third full season in NASCAR’s second-tiered Nationwide Series. With the addition of Dollar General to the Joe Gibbs Racing sponsorship lineup, Scott’s No. 11 Toyota Camry will sport the esteemed Dollar General brand for all 33 Nationwide Series races on the 2012 NASCAR circuit.
The young driver’s 2011 Nationwide Series campaign earned him two top-five finishes, seven top-10 finishes and one pole under the Joe Gibbs Racing banner. He also scored the Featherlite Most Improved driver of the year award. Scott finished eighth in the Nationwide Series point standings in 2011 and enters this year as a highly viable candidate for winning the 2012 championship.
Scott’s first full season in the Nationwide Series was completed in 2010 with one top-five and five top-10 finishes en route to finishing the season as the runner-up for Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors. His Nationwide Series debut came in 2009 with seven starts in the series.
A native of Boise, Idaho, Scott has been racing competitively since the age of 12. One of his early career highlights came at the 360 Nationals at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington, when he competed against an elite field of dirt racers and brought home an impressive second place finish. It was a moment that affirmed his and his family’s belief that Scott had the talent to compete at the highest levels of racing.
Scott moved east to North Carolina in 2006 to make the jump from dirt track racing to asphalt ovals. His first opportunity to race in a NASCAR national tour series came in 2007 when he competed in seven Camping World Truck Series events. Scott returned in 2008 to run the full season in the truck series and finished second in the Rookie of the Year race after tallying seven top-10 and two top-five finishes. He earned his first win in the series in 2009 with a victory at Dover International Speedway and went on to post seven top-fives and 13 top-10 finishes over the course of the season.
An avid outdoorsman, Scott enjoys hunting, fishing and skiing when he is away from the track. He has been known to take some of those sports to the “extreme” level to include helicopter skiing. Although a born athlete, Scott also graduated from high school as an honor student with a 4.0 GPA.
Scott, his crew chief Kevin Kidd and the No. 11 Dollar General team are aiming to win races and contend for the Nationwide Series championship this season. Equipped with an established fleet of racecars and a core group of team members, Scott and the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing team are looking forward to putting Dollar General in the headlines for 2012.
