Travis Kittleson, making his debut behind the wheel of the No. 20 Bob Steele Chevrolet, led the two-car Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) contingent at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., by finishing 17th in Saturday night’s Gateway 250 NASCAR Busch Series race. It was Kittleson’s first Busch Series race of the season and just the third of his career, and his best career Busch Series finish.
Brad Coleman, driver of the No. 18 Carino’s Italian Grill Chevrolet for JGR, finished 27th after contact with J.J. Yeley on Lap 155 ended his night. Yeley, regular driver of the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Chevrolet for JGR in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, was driving the No. 1 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet.
There were nine caution periods for 44 laps, with 16 drivers failing to finish the 200-lap race.
With 21 of 35 Busch Series races in the books, the No. 20 car remains third in owner points, 445 points behind the leading No. 60 car of Roush Fenway Racing. The No. 18 car is 26th in owner points, 52 points outside the top-20.
Reed Sorensen scored his third career Busch Series victory and his first of the season by winning the Gateway 250. Scott Wimmer, David Reutimann, Jason Leffler and David Ragan secured the rest of the top-five. Carl Edwards, Kevin Hamlin, Ron Hornaday, Jr., J.J. Yeley (driving for Phoenix Racing) and Todd Bodine comprised the remainder of the top-10.
