Joey Logano Still Has Eyes On Pro Cup Series Title
16-Year-Old Uses Mulligan In Iowa, Set For Five-Race Chase To Championship

MOORESVILLE, NC (September 26, 2006) – With the way the USAR Hooters Pro Cup Series crowns its champion, any and all drivers that make the “Four Champions” Championship Series have a shot at the title. Drivers race in a six-race “playoff” system, meaning with several good runs, even someone who struggled in the regular season can still race for the championship. And, with six races to decide the winner, one-bad race can put anyone behind.

Joey Logano had a bad race when the Championship Series opened up a couple of weeks ago at Iowa Speedway, finishing 36th. Now, Logano finds himself 17th in the point standings with just five races remaining. But the 16-year-old Joe Gibbs Racing Development Driver isn’t counting himself out by any means. He sits only 107 points out of the top spot.

“Iowa hurt our chances a little but, but we’ve still got five races to go,” said Logano. “It put us out pretty far now, but we aren’t going to count ourselves out. There is still quite a bit of time left. We just have to have some good runs and not have any bad luck. You never know what can happen.”

Joey’s good runs could start this coming weekend at Jennerstown Speedway, where Joey has a career-best finish of second, which came in last year’s Championship Series event at the track.

“I’ve always liked that place,” added Logano. “That is where I ran my first Pro Cup race actually, so it is kind of a special place to me.

“I just like the track. I ran there in ASA and it’s just always been one of my favorite places. Actually, it is a pretty plain track and that is what I like about it. I don’t like where these places do all of this funky stuff to tracks. The place has a lot of grip and there is a big old bump going into the corners. That just puts more character into the track.”

The Miller Lite 250 at Jennerstown is slated for a 7 p.m. green flag on Saturday, September 30th.
